CSA BrainHealth Newsletter #4 |
December 2025 |
|
Dear Subscriber,
The Coordination
and Support Action (CSA) BrainHealth is the preparatory phase
for the European Partnership for Brain Health. The project started
on November 1st, 2023 with a runtime of 24 months. Funded by the
European Commission, it builds the umbrella for 21 participants from
11 countries.
Welcome to the final edition of the CSA
BrainHealth Newsletter – a milestone moment as we conclude two years
of collective effort and prepare for an exciting new chapter: the
launch of the European Partnership for Brain Health in January 2026.
This issue celebrates the achievements, collaborations and momentum
built across Europe and beyond, while offering a glimpse of what
comes next. Together, we have laid the foundations for a stronger,
more connected and more ambitious European brain research landscape
– and the journey is only just beginning.

CSA BrainHealth Webinar: Towards a Global Brain Health Data
Space
9 October 2025,
Online
Organised by the CSA BrainHealth, the “Towards a Global Brain
Health Data Space” webinar took place on 9 October 2025. The webinar
gathered global experts to discuss regional needs and priorities for
brain research and data sharing infrastructure, together with
identifying synergies and opportunities for global collaboration
towards a global brain health data space. The discussion showcased
the importance of collaboration and communication, the value of
enriching datasets and filling data gaps from underrepresented
countries, as well as boosting training and education. This webinar
therefore provided a meaningful platform to foster international
collaboration, promote open exchange, and build meaningful
cross-border networks.

The CSA BrainHealth at the 80th United Nations General
Assembly
24-26 September
2025, New York City
The Coordination and Support Action (CSA) BrainHealth joined
global leaders at the 2025 Brain Days during the Science Summit of
the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), organized by the
European Brain Council (EBC) and partners. The event marked a
pivotal step in bringing brain health to the forefront of the
international policy agenda – from research coordination to societal
resilience and sustainable development.
The engagement of the CSA BrainHealth at UNGA80 demonstrated that
the future of brain health will depend on shared vision, mutual
learning and sustained investment. As Friederike Bathe concluded,
“Our goal is impact – to generate solutions that make life better
for people affected by neurological and mental disorders
everywhere.” By connecting the dots between regional innovation and
global diplomacy, the CSA BrainHealth’s participation in UNGA80
reinforced its central mission: to make brain health a unifying and
actionable global priority.

Ethics, Methodology, Patient and Carer Engagement
ERA-Net NEURON
Article in PLOS Biology
The EP BrainHealth wants to highlight a recent publication of our
predecessor initiative, the ERA-Net NEURON, in PLOS Biology
(Lichtenberg & Müller et al., 2025), developed in collaboration
with patient representatives and the Berlin Brain Institute of
Health/QUEST Center for Responsible Research. This work presents a
comprehensive framework to strengthen methodological rigor, ethical
awareness, and patient engagement in biomedical research. The
approach integrates patient and healthcare professional perspectives
across all research stages – from study design to result
interpretation – supported by a structured training program for
patient reviewers and a quality assurance workshops for researchers.
It demonstrates how participatory, ethically sound research can be
systematically implemented in funding schemes by showcasing NEURON’s
work. According to Open Science principles, all curricula and
documents are openly accessible, offering a scalable best practice
blueprint for other research funding formats worldwide. The EP
BrainHealth is building on this foundation to drive forward
participatory science and more responsible, impactful research.
